Massachusetts Data Safety Rules (M.G.L.c. 93H and 201 CMR 17.00)

In August 2007, Massachusetts enacted comprehensive identity theft
legislation and became the 39th state to protect residents by requiring
that they be notified of an unauthorized access or use of their personal
information. The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation
Massachusetts has adopted new data security regulations which are
designed to address the important issue of protecting personal
information of Massachusetts residents from potential data breaches and
identity theft. This proesentation addresses the
requirements of the law, enforcement considerations, possible
penalties for violations, and best practices for compliance.
